Exeter Westpoint – 23-26 September 2010
Come to Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts at Exeter Westpoint from the 23-26 September and witness the exclusive launch of the brand new knitting project, ‘Above and Below the Waves’, alongside all of the latest stitching and creative craft designs, ideas, supplies and advice!
The ‘Above and Below the Waves’ display measures an enormous 9×6 metres including a 3D walk-through tunnel with knitted beaches, waves and all the creatures that lurk beneath the waves. Designed by Alison Murray, the project will raise money for the RNLI’s Train One – Save Many Campaign. This ‘fishy’ collection of wooly items has been created by visitors at ICHF’s Autumn 2009 and Spring 2010 shows and will be swimming with knitted starfish, mystical mermaids, fishermen, swirling seaweed, jellyfish, shimmering shells and all things nautical!
The Afghanistan Inspiration display will be showcasing some of the most vibrant and stunning embroidery squares created by the women of Afghanistan. This humanitarian project has taught women and girls from the Laghmani village, Afghanistan to create their own unique hand embroidered squares. These are then sold and used by experienced textile artists throughout Europe to create beautiful finished products that combine a mixture of colours, styles and techniques to symbolise the two cultures uniting. Visit www.oneearthtextiles.co.uk/ for full details.
The Undoing of the Corsett follows a fascinating history of underwear, showing how it shaped the changing outlines of fashion through every era and became ever more free as woman gained more rights.
‘Glimpses of the Swinging Sixties’ the prestigious Stitch/Madeira 2010 competition pieces will be on display taking you back to a bygone era where flower power was at its prime and mini skirts and Mary Quant were at the forefront of fashion!
Keeping it Hot! The National Needlework Archive competition brings together a delightful collection of reproduction and contemporary designed tea cosy designs, displayed alongside some original vintage pieces and patterns.
Summer in the Park is a selection of exclusive quilts on a theme of Summer in the Park from members of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles.
