Hi guys,

Can you do me a favour? Can you let me know if you have been having problems with replying to posts. I know a few of you have said that you have to start a new thread to write anything and if this is happening to you then can you email me at louisa.mclean@practicalpublishing.co.uk giving me your username and letting me know the problems you've been having. I spoke to one of the web guys this morning about the problems and they have asked me to get a list of all the users that have been affected so that they can look into the reasons why.

We are aware that some users have been unable to post since the last forum software upgrade. What's really strange is that this only seems to be affecting a handful of users, not all. We're unable to replicate it here, and we're still at a loss to find out why it is happening. That's why Louisa asked people who are affected to let us know, to see if we could piece together a pattern that might point to the cause of the problem.

The keys next to your name, incidentally, don't necessarily mean you're locked out – everyone now sees that icon, which if clicked should list the permissions you have for the particular forum you're currently looking at. If any of you are finding there are specific forums where you don't have the permissions you'd expect to have, then please let us know, as this might be a clue to tracking down the cause of the problem!

The Private Messaging problem, on the other hand, does appear to be affecting everyone. Again, this seems to have stemmed from the last forum software upgrade. Unfortunately, the forum software we use (called Simple:Press) wasn't created by us, so trouble-shooting problems like this can be really tricky. We are in contact with the authors to see if they can help get to the bottom of this. Please do bear with us, and hopefully we'll be able to get it resolved soon.
