Have you seen the news story about the Beatrix Potter launch? I'm so excited about it as I used to love the stories when I was little. They bring back so many happy childhood memories for me.

Don't forget to watch the launch on Ideal World tonight at 9pm!!!

Anyone here know if you can sell the cards etc you make using the CDRoMs?

Been trying without success to get a proper response from Ideal World (emailed several times) and Crafter's Companion are being very, very vague – no-one will say yes or no.

It's ok – they've finally said no you can't (been emailing Ideal World since last night trying to find out) so I'm glad I didn't send off for them!

Have a few CC cds and won't get any more – whats the point if you can't sell the cards – there's only so many you can use yourself!

I thought I'd check with Crafter's Companion for you to find out exactly what you can and can't do with their CDs and I've been given this link to their forum where Sara has cleared up the rules regarding their Angel Policy etc. Hopefully it will make things clearer for you.

I was also given links to their Angel Policy that you can read here and the copyright notice that you can read here

I hope this helps guys Smile

Following on from my previous post, I've had an email giving a link to an official fair usage policy about selling cards using the Beatrix Potter CDs etc. You can read it at the following link:

well it seems I can stamp but not use the cds to sell cards – is that correct?  i just wish CC would say whether you can sell the cards or not!

Hi Ailbo,

Reading between the lines at the following statement:

Our range of Beatrix Potter™ craft products have been designed for crafters to be used for making cards and other paper-based crafts. All of the Beatrix Potter™ products produced by Crafter’s Companion are copyrighted or licensed to Crafter’s Companion. All the elements available in our range come under our Fair Usage Policy. We want you to get the most value out of our range so give you permission to use our products for creating personal and resalable items as long as:

- Items are crafted by hand (no mechanical or computerised reproduction in any form is permitted)

- Items are sold to raise funds for local establishments (e.g. local schools, hospitals, community centres), or for registered charities

- Items are not sold for large-scale commercial gain (i.e. no more than 200 sold in any 12-month period)

- Items are not promoted or sold online at any time

- Items are not promoted or sold through retail outlets at any time

- Items sold give credit to Crafter’s Companion on the back

- Designs are not used as company logos, trademarks, or personal stationery

To me this means that you can sell your cards as long as it's on a small scale and it's not done through the internet or through a retail outlet. For instance if you sell your cards at a local craft fair or to friends, family & work colleauges then you have no problem at all. You will just need to write something on the reverse of the card that gives credit to Crafter's Companion. For instance, if I sold a card I would write something like 'handmade by Louisa. Beatrix Potter images copyright of Crafter's Companion' and then it would be fine. I think the policy is there more to protect themselves from companies who reproduce other companies' designs on a large scale (in the hundreds & thousands) for a large profit.

Thanks Louisa.   The first condition is certainly open to interpretation, but I'm glad you've clarified it for us all, and that makes sense.   Otherwise, it did seem pointless producing a CD if we weren't able to maximise on it.    Whilst I'm on, thanks for the update on the Flower Fairies' prizes delivery.  I think we were all getting paranoid!!!  Laughing xx
